The summer is fading, Labor Day is behind us, and everyone is back from their vacations. The casual summer attitudes are being replaced by renewed focus on staffing. This is the perfect time of year to redouble the job search efforts. Other than the usual job board perusing, here are a few tips to take advantage of the current market.
1. Brush Up Your Resume
Have you completed a short term temp assignment? Done some freelancing? Been active in a volunteer organization? Now is the time to add it to your resume. Even if you don’t have any new items to add, you might want to spend some time fixing the formatting or freshening up the layout.
2. Reconnect with Contacts
Now is a great time to reach out to HR contacts you may have spoken with in the past to see if anything new is happening within their company. It is also a good idea become more active on Linkedin; follow some additional companies and connect with some new decision makers at firms you’re interested in.
3. Get the Word Out
Does everyone in your network know that you’re on the job hunt? You never know if your second cousin has a contact at a company you’ve been dying to get into. This is also a great time to engage with some staffing agencies, if you haven’t already. Agencies often have the inside track on openings, so it only helps you to engage with as many as you can.
